The Christmas Market at Old World Huntington Beach is a festive cultural experience where the German School Campus shares authentic German holiday traditions with families and the wider community. Through crafts, storytelling, and hands-on activities, children experience German culture in a joyful and educational setting beyond the classroom.
What Is the German Christmas Market Tradition?
German Christmas markets are a centuries-old tradition that brings communities together during the Advent season. They combine handcrafted goods, seasonal foods, music, and storytelling to celebrate cultural heritage, generosity, and togetherness.
Markets like the one at Old World Huntington Beach recreate this atmosphere by blending history, tradition, and modern community life.
How We Participate at Old World Huntington Beach
From mid-November through December, the German School Campus participates in the Christmas Market at Old World Huntington Beach in collaboration with the Old World Biergarten.
At our booth, children and families take part in hands-on arts and crafts while learning about German holiday customs, symbols, and traditions in an engaging, age-appropriate way.
German Holiday Traditions Children Learn About
During the Christmas Market experience, children are introduced to:
- The origins of German Christmas ornaments
- Stories from the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge)
- The history of the Christmas tree tradition
- Traditional holiday treats such as Dresdner Stollen and Mozartkugeln
- Cultural vocabulary connected to winter, holidays, and family traditions
These elements help connect language learning with meaningful cultural context.
