Report Class Support & Culture
Teaching Practicum, Theatre Projects, and Border Crossing Experiences
This week, I started supporting Alexandra’s class instead of Sarah’s. The change is noticeable since these students are much younger and just beginning to learn how to read. It’s fascinating to see how much German they already know! Together, we’re practicing initial sounds and are already hard at work on a Christmas play.
Focus on Culture: From Frida Kahlo to Climate Change
In Sarah’s Spanish classes, we are currently studying important Hispanic figures like Frida Kahlo and Picasso to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. It’s about understanding the culture behind the language, not just the grammar.
Ms. Schoeneich’s online class recently completed their climate change road trip project. The results were truly impressive! Now, the focus remains on intensive writing practice to prepare everyone for the upcoming exams in November.

California Hikes & San Diego Discoveries
In my free time, I visited Pepperdine University in Malibu and enjoyed the breathtaking view of Downtown LA from the 33rd floor. I also went on two beautiful hikes: Switzer Falls near Pasadena and Crystal Cove at Laguna Beach. Diving into the cool water after the hike was the perfect refreshment!
A highlight was our visit to an international cultural event in San Diego. Various countries were represented in small houses, including Germany. The warm atmosphere and the delicious German lemon cake felt like a small piece of home in California.

Border Experience: Walking into Mexico
After the event in San Diego, we walked across the border into Tijuana, Mexico. It was amazing to experience a completely different world so close to the border—the culture, the atmosphere, and the vibrant energy were fascinating. It was a wonderful glimpse into a new culture, and luckily, the crossing went smoothly.
