High School German Credit Program and Academic Plan
The German School Campus offers a comprehensive German language program that may qualify for 10 high school credits per academic year. The program provides approximately 120 instructional hours annually, aligning with instructional standards commonly used by California high schools for world language credit. Students who complete German I (A1) and German II (A2) satisfy the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) minimum foreign language admission requirement of two years of study in the same language. This structure is consistent with California high school practices, WASC accreditation expectations, and UC/CSU admissions standards.
Assessment and Proficiency Evaluation
Student progress is assessed through chapter tests administered upon completion of each instructional unit throughout the academic year. These assessments serve as the primary measure of academic achievement and language development within the course.
Certified Competency & Testing Standards
As a licensed ÖSD Examination Center serving the West Coast of the United States, the German School Campus also documents student proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students will take the ÖSD A1-C1 Examination, an internationally recognized standardized proficiency assessment that evaluates all four language competencies:
Successful completion of the ÖSD A1-C1 Examination provides externally validated evidence of proficiency at the A1-C1 CEFR level. The certification will be documented on the student’s academic transcript.
