WEEK 9: EXAMS & FOREST PROJECTS

University Practicum: Newport Beach & Los Angeles, California

In her ninth internship report, Annika describes her ongoing teaching activities, student exam support, and cultural experiences in Los Angeles during her time at German School Campus.

Forest Project: Types of Trees

After the break last week due to baking, my forest project was continued on Monday in the three Monday classes. In Alex’s and Sarah’s classes, the focus was on “Types of Trees.” The students learned that there are generally deciduous and coniferous trees and became familiar with the typical tree species of a German forest. The kindergarten children spent this week playfully learning about hedgehogs and earthworms as forest inhabitants and continued working on their materials for their posters.

Spanish Vocabulary and Family Studies

On Tuesday, the Spanish class continued with the topic “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” This time, the focus was on different fruits, which were introduced and practiced in a fun way using the story. The Spanish class on Thursday further deepened the topic of “Family.” The students expanded their vocabulary on family members and applied what they had learned in various exercises and dialogues.

DSD-I and ÖSD Exam Day

Wednesday was a special and exciting day for many students because the DSD-I exam took place. We met in the morning and started the exam together. At the same time, an ÖSD exam was also conducted. Since both exams consist of multiple extensive parts, the exam day stretched into the afternoon. Despite the tension, the students worked with focus and perseverance.

Weekend in Los Angeles

On the weekend, I spent my free time attending a soccer game at the Banc of California Stadium, where I watched the match between LAFC and FC Austin. I also visited the California Science Center, which impressed me with its display of the Space Shuttle Endeavour and many other fascinating and interactive exhibits. I ended the evening with a visit to the Griffith Observatory, where I had the chance to experience a breathtaking sunset over Los Angeles.
